Fragrance Development Director

Job Purpose

To lead and develop the Product Performance Development team, providing technical and strategic leadership in fragrance application and performance, while driving innovation, resolving complex customer and internal challenges, developing effective testing methodologies, and delivering technical presentations and recommendations to customers across Fine Fragrance, Personal Care, Home Care and Household applications.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Commercial responsibilities

  • Responsible for presenting technical concepts to customers when requested.
  • Allocate UK accounts, follow up with team members, and encourage and train them to attend kick-off meetings and present technologies when required.

PPD capability

  • Coordinate the Product Performance workload for both reactive and proactive testing.
  • Guarantee that the testing conducted will have a commercial objective and it will enrich CPL’s know-how.
  • Conduct performance testing for customer and internal projects including stability, weight loss, and viscosity testing, in accordance with internal CPL protocols and/or customer-supplied methods.
  • Accurately enter test data into internal systems, including the intranet-based database, sensory analysis software, and Excel.
  • Prepare technical reports for the commercial team to share with customers (e.g. Customer Testing Reports, AromaGuard Certificates).
  • Develop team members' technical and analytical capabilities.
  • Support recruitment/onboarding and role development of core team and University Placement Students.
  • Ensure quality and consistency of the team's work
  • Make sure the equipment is up to date with calibration. Ensuring contracts are also up-to date.

Provide Essential link across different departments

  • UKS link to the Group R & D Manager.
  • Participate in the Technical Team weekly meetings.
  • Take the Technical leadership of the UK Division.
  • Supporting the Perfumery, Development and Commercial teams to implement new technologies in the relevant commercial strategy of the UK Division.
  • Coordinate with the Applications Lab to integrate new technologies into its processes and application making.
  • Research new bases for replicating customer requirements for new submissions.
  • Ensure the availability of raw materials specially for making new applications for specific briefs.
  • Facilitate technical support to all the categories and the proactive projects. (Personal Care, Home, Household, and fabric care.)
  • Provide technical support to key account managers, evaluators, and other relevant staff.
  • Provide Technical Training to other departments and new starters when needed.
  • Respond to the technical needs of the UK division as when they arrive.

Skills and Attributes Required

Qualification requirements

  • Relevant fragrance technical background essential, education in science, ideally chemistry or chemistry related
  • 3-5+ years relevant experience in a relevant industry,
  • Experience managing a team

Skills and Knowledge

  • Demonstrated ability to work with stakeholders across the organisation to develop and implement strategies
  • High-level written and communication skills Computer literate and skilled in using Office 365 with excellent ability using spreadsheets and Sensory Testing software.
  • Able to take a methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Have a good sense of smell, internal smelling test provided.
  • Have a well-developed attention to detail aiming for accuracy.
  • Be able to work in an organised way
